The successful candidate will be responsible for the following key duties:
Project Oversight: Report to the Regional/Managing Quantity Surveyor and assume overall responsibility for all QS activities on-site.
Budgeting: Collaborate with internal cost planning teams and external resources during project budget preparation stages.
Preliminaries Book: Coordinate with the project team to compile the Preliminaries Book for budget inclusion.
Cost Management: Lead cost management processes across the project, ensuring accurate compilation and validation of cost reports, cash flows, and CRM (commercial review meeting) documentation.
Risk Management: Identify, assess, and accrue for known and potential risks, implementing appropriate mitigation measures. Foster an environment that encourages early identification and management of risks across the team.
Monthly Reporting: Present a comprehensive commercial pack to the Senior Management Team each month.
Procurement: Oversee the procurement process, manage the schedule, and ensure accurate scope definitions for all subcontract packages.
Subcontractor Management: Manage subcontractor packages, process payments to subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants, and perform standard QS duties.
Value-Driven Approach: Promote a value-seeking mindset within the project QS team, clearly distinguishing between cost and value.
Continuous Professional Development (CPD): Stay informed about new construction methods and technologies and encourage CPD within the project QS team.
Relationship Building: Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
Part V Submissions: Prepare Part V submissions and manage all relevant negotiations.
Monthly QS Cycle: Ensure the timely completion of the monthly QS cycle on-site.
Team Management: Lead the project QS team, supporting the growth and development of all direct reports.
Collaboration with Project Management: Work closely with the Project Manager to ensure successful project delivery and completion.
Candidate Requirements
Experience: 7-10+ years of post-graduate experience in PQS or a contractor's office.
Sector Knowledge: Residential/house building experience is desirable, with a strong technical understanding of modern construction methods.
Goal-Oriented: Ability to meet demanding time and quality targets.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in Cubit, Cost-ex, or similar software, along with Microsoft Office.
Willingness to Learn: Openness to training and development of relevant knowledge and skills.
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical ability and the capacity to present findings effectively.
Communication: Excellent spoken and written communication skills.
