Job Title: Senior Electronics Development Test Engineer Location: City of London - 4x days onsite & 1x day remote Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 Development test engineer to take ownership of the board and module sub-assembly characterisation and production test activities. The successful candidate will work closely with the design and operations teams to deliver fully realised production test solutions ready to support the scale up of hardware procurement while developing knowledge that can be applied to future product releases. The role will require a self-motivated engineer who has a strong background in the testing of digital, analogue and RF PCB sub-assemblies while managing other key stakeholders when working to support deliverables as a wider team. They should be a good communicator, motivated by teamwork and happy to support hands on testing as well as deliver concise technical documentation. Technical Responsibilities: Take time to understand the current characterisation and production test specifications for Digital, Analogue and RF PCB assemblies and subsequent module sub-assemblies Take ownership of the board characterisation and commissioning tests for recent low volume PCB builds in order to deliver tested boards into the product development teams Assess the suitability of the supporting test hardware, recommend improvements and take ownership of the test hardware development, delivering test jigs for low volume production runs Automate, where possible, board commissioning tests. Assess expected test times for boards and module assemblies and work to optimise assembly and integration test activities Update and release technical production test specifications and test logs to support traceability at product level Interface with the development teams on design issues from the field and recommend improvements to increase the test coverage and thus reduce returns Resolve manufacturing issues in a timely manner, working with contract manufacturers where necessary Organisational Responsibilities: Write and maintain up to date test procedures. Lead training and support for technicians to allow them to perform board commissioning tests Support transition of test activities to contract manufacturing partners Work with PLM systems to support traceability of PCBA production runs Demonstrated ability to deliver on-time and build good working relationships with cross-functional teams and external departments, reporting against targets where required Excellent communication skills. Strongly self-motivated and able to take responsibility of problems and finding effective solutions May require occasional travel to CEM site (Scotland) and Harwell. Expenses will be paid if this is required. Ensure adherence to the company's values. Qualifications & Skills: Essential: Educated to Degree level in a relevant subject area such as Electronics/Electrical Engineering or be able to demonstrate equivalent and relevant experience. At least 5 years' experience in a production development environment with a history of hands-on testing of PCB and electronic sub-assemblies or leading-edge electronic components. Capable of reading and understanding design specifications, test requirements and schematics with a view to subsequently developing tests suitable for capturing board performance metrics Write and maintain Test Procedures from a set of Requirements. Oversee and monitor the production test systems that are already in place. This includes the continuous improvement through investment and managing the maintenance of them. Designing test fixtures (whether PCB's or Cable assemblies) and managing the fixture build with external suppliers. The candidate can also analyse and troubleshoot delivered setups in a timely and accurate manner. Project manage new product implementations from design stage through to production implementation. Support the design team with making products designed for manufacture Experience with a suitable Scripting language such as Python or Matlab to control equipment for test automation and the development of semi-automated functional tests. Demonstratable experience of understanding hardware functions and following schematics. Understand and implement best practice around production test in manufacturing environments. Experience in delivering well defined projects and an understanding of managing tasks and reporting on progress and slippages that can have an impact of other business areas. Experience of working with external resources or contractor arrangements. Strong written and verbal communication skills and capable of producing high quality test reports. Motivated by teamwork and the ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously. Practical with good problem-solving capabilities and able to adapt to fast moving environments. Prepared to be flexible in working hours as may occasionally need to work outside office hours. IT proficient with the ability to use bespoke software. A desire and aptitude to learn.
