Application System Engineer required!
We have an exciting long-term Full time contract role for a client in Luxembourg.
This role will require onsite presence but can allow some remote flexibility: a maximum of 2 days per week working from home.
French fluency is an essential requirement for this role.
The selected Application System Engineer will join the Unix team in Luxembourg managing 320 Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, 7, and 8 machines, 95% virtualized, hosting critical applications for the client's users.
The environment:
- Power Servers running AIX 7 with PowerVM/VIO (NPIV, SEA), managing about 100 partitions under NIM, hosting critical applications and databases (Oracle, WebSphere Application Server, IBM Spectrum Protect, Swift, etc.).
- OpenShift clusters hosting critical applications.
- Open storage arrays (Windows/Linux).
- Entire backup infrastructure (software and hardware).
The ideal Application System Engineer will have proven experience in the financial domain and be a good communicator.
Your role as an Application System engineer will include:
- Primarily participating in various banking projects involving the installation and deployment of banking applications (web or not) and platform or version migrations.
- System tasks: filesystem expansion, OS patching, upgrades on AIX/RHEL or applications, third-party tool installations, Scripting, backup setup, Nagios monitoring configuration, daily system maintenance, system security hardening, and maintenance of banking applications or Middleware.
- Strict adherence to administrative procedures and organisational rules is essential (regular reporting, electronic requests to other teams, work hours, etc.).
Skills and experience required:
- Real experience, versatility, good overall autonomy, and rigorous work ethic (testing, change management, production deployment, and documentation).
- The consultant must be aware of the critical environment they operate in: financial sector, high SLAs, and quality service for users.
- The consultant must be capable of executing their technical project, including analysis, LPAR AIX or Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) installations, application setup, testing, production deployment or migration, documentation, monitoring, securing, etc.
- Advanced knowledge of the AIX or RHEL operating system is required.
- Familiarity with security best practices (OS and application hardening, standard password changes).
- Proficiency in French is crucial for meetings, documentation writing, and reading.
