Expert SolidWorks including PDM Hands-on experience with methods of fabrication to include light machining and 3D printing Experience of tolerancing and specifications for production Overview The demand for long-term data storage in the cloud is reaching unprecedented levels, and continues to grow into the zettabytes. Existing storage technologies do not provide a cost-effective solution for storing long-lived data. This project is developing the first-ever storage technology designed and built from the media up, for the cloud. They are leveraging recent discoveries in ultrafast Laser optics to store data in quartz glass by using femtosecond lasers, and building a completely new storage system designed from scratch around this technology. They are looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support this research and other cloud research projects. The team is multi-disciplinary, comprising optics, software and electronics experts with a collaborative and agile atmosphere. Responsibilities The key responsibility of this role will be technology demonstration and supporting research activities. This will include: Working with the team to enable new functionality as required High tolerance design and build of mechanical assemblies Experimentation Clear documentation and report summaries including specifications Skillset Required: Expert SolidWorks including PDM Significant experience in the design and implementation of motion systems requiring sub micrometre accuracy and alignment Hands-on experience with methods of fabrication to include light machining and 3D printing Experience of tolerancing and specifications for production Desirable: Familiarity with optical systems including free space optics, waveguide/fibre optics, monolithic optical design.
