Costello & Reyes Group has been engaged by our client, a Defence contractor to identify an SC cleared Cilium and eBPF Deployment Engineer with a strong background in Defence services. The engagement is for an initial 6 months but has parallel programs which would enable an extension for the successful candidate. As a Cilium and eBPF Deployment Engineer , you will play a critical role in ensuring the successful integration of Cilium and eBPF technology within Kubernetes environments. Your responsibilities will include deploying, configuring, and maintaining Cilium as a robust Container Network Interface (CNI) solution. You'll collaborate closely with DevOps teams, network architects, and security professionals to enhance network observability, security, and performance. Key Responsibilities Deployment and Configuration: Deploy Cilium as a DaemonSet into Kubernetes clusters. Configure Cilium to leverage eBPF for efficient packet processing, network policy enforcement, and observability. Ensure seamless integration with existing CNI solutions. Network Observability: Utilize Hubble (Cilium's observability companion) to monitor network activities in Real Time. Leverage eBPF to gain insights into network flows, security policies, and process behavior within Kubernetes workloads. Performance Tuning: Optimize Cilium's performance by fine-tuning eBPF programs and network policies. Collaborate with performance engineers to identify bottlenecks and improve overall efficiency. Security and Compliance: Implement security policies using Cilium's eBPF-based capabilities. Ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices. Documentation and Training: Create detailed deployment guides and best practices for Cilium and eBPF integration. Train other team members on Cilium deployment and maintenance. Qualifications Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience deploying and managing Cilium and eBPF in Kubernetes environments. Technical Skills: Proficiency in Kubernetes networking concepts. Strong understanding of eBPF technology and its applications. Familiarity with network observability tools (eg, Hubble). Scripting skills (eg, Python, Go) for automation. Certifications: Cilium Certified Engineer (CCE) or equivalent certification is a plus. Collaboration: Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Skills Needed for Cilium: Kubernetes Knowledge: Understanding Kubernetes concepts and architecture is essential. Networking Expertise: Familiarity with networking principles, especially in a cloud-native context. eBPF Understanding: Learning about eBPF and how it works is crucial. Security Awareness: Knowledge of security practices and policies. Linux and Kernel Basics: Understanding Linux operating systems and Kernel Internals. Cloud Networking: Experience with virtual private clouds (VPCs), multi-cloud networking, and network automation. Service Mesh Concepts: Awareness of service mesh tools and concepts.
