Mobility and Access Consultant Part time and Full time considered Based on experience Home based working plus fieldwork in Vermont Job Role To schedule, coordinate and undertake home assessments throughout the state of Vermont to provide recommendations for home modification and assistive technology as appropriate to maximize the participant's level of independence, accessibility, mobility, and safety for both the participant and the caregiver in accordance with contractual deadlines. They are a DOBE certified Disability Owned and Operated Business Enterprise based in the UK, providing accessibility consultancy based on their real lived experience of disability. They enable organisations worldwide to create inclusive environments that meet and exceed accessibility standards and building regulations, working closely with Architects and Design Teams on new builds, and providing accessibility audits to improve the inclusivity of already established sites. Position summary A successful applicant shall perform Accessibility and Mobility assessments using a physical therapist, occupational therapist, mobility specialist (or equivalent), with general knowledge of individuals with physical disabilities, neurological injuries, developmental disabilities and older adults and can provide recommendations for home modification and assistive technology as appropriate to maximize the participant's level of independence, accessibility, mobility and safety for both the participant and the caregiver. The person completing the assessments must adhere to all licensure and/or certification rules applicable to their profession. The Accessibility and Mobility assessments are to be completed for agencies providing 24-hour homes to individuals receiving Developmental Disabilities Home and Community Based Services (DS HCBS), Brain Injury Program services (BIP) or Choices for Care Adult Family Care services (AFC). Essential duties and responsibilities Develop comprehensive and detailed reports supporting modifications for accessibility and identifying areas for improvement. Promote independent living and universal design philosophies. Other duties as requested by the Manager or Director. Required knowledge, skills, and abilities: Must have knowledge and understanding of physical disabilities, neurological injuries, developmental disabilities, and conditions which commonly affect older adults. Excellent communication skills and good written and spoken English are also requirements. Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities: An outstanding candidate will have experience in physical, mobility or occupational therapy. They will also have knowledge of the Models of Disability and an appreciation of the Social Model's fundamental importance to accessibility consultancy. Working conditions: Regular fieldwork will involve trips to project sites as required. Home or office work will be agreed upon with the successful candidate.
